Social Work

TLC-WA provides social work support, and family-focused approaches addressing a range of emotional, social, and environmental challenges experienced by young children, adolescents, adults, and families.

Our social worker has years of experience working in the fields of mental health support, family and domestic violence and homelessness.

Our social work approach is holistic and person-centred, recognising the complex interplay between individual experiences, family dynamics, and broader social systems. We take the time to understand each client’s unique circumstances, providing compassionate support while empowering individuals and families to navigate challenges and build sustainable change.

We utilise evidence-based social work practices and tailor our interventions to meet the diverse needs of both children and adults. Collaboration is central to our work—we engage with other professionals and services to build a multidisciplinary support network around each client, ensuring the best possible outcomes for individuals and their families.

We provide services in the following areas of Social Work:

Child-Centred and Family-Focused Practice

We understand that every child and family is unique, so whilst working towards your child’s goals, we work alongside you to:

  • Listen to your concerns and work together to create plans and goals;
  • Help you identify and understand issues that might be impacting you and your family and help you make changes;
  • Support and strengthen family relationships, recognising the vital role they play in a child’s development.

Key Work Support

We provide a consistent and reliable point of contact for families, supporting them to navigate the range of services their child is accessing. Our role includes:

  • Acting as the central liaison between families and the broader network of practitioners;
  • Coordinating care across disciplines when multiple services are involved;
  • Prioritising and maintaining meaningful, trusting relationships with the child and their support network, including family members, therapists, carers, and other key individuals in their life.

Parent and Caregiver Support

We understand that it may be helpful to talk to someone about challenges you are experiencing, we provide a safe space to talk and can also:

  • Support the development of your self-confidence as a parent or caregiver;
  • Help you develop coping strategies and resilience;
  • Connect you with parent support groups or counselling if needed.

Information and Referrals

Knowing where to go in the community for support can be hard, we can help connect you to other services by:

  • Sharing information on services that may be helpful for your family;
  • Help you to understand your choices and narrow down options;
  • Assist with referrals to external services based on needs.

Support in Understanding Your Child’s Social and Emotional Development

We support you to build a strong, positive relationship with your child by:

  • Helping you understand your child’s social and emotional development;
  • Sharing new ways to support your child’s learning and behaviour;
  • Provide practical strategies you can use at home to build everyday skills.
